Vision of the Department

The department works on developing curricula and disseminating scientific knowledge while using modern technology to enhance the efficiency of today’s student, who is the teacher of the future.
It regularly updates the visions related to the Teaching Methods Department in a way that aligns with progress in the field at the regional and international levels, aiming to monitor the extent of development, which should ultimately meet the needs of the labor market.

Through this process and the tools used, including laboratories and computers, the student’s efficiency is enhanced, allowing her to integrate modern technology into the field, thereby providing her with greater opportunities in the labor market.

The Special Program

Physical education for students with special needs

Preparing and qualifying specialized cadres in the field of teaching and instructing physical education for individuals with special needs, as well as developing students’ personalities academically and educationally, and enhancing their knowledge, skills, and abilities through the program’s academic courses. The program awards a bachelor’s degree in line with labor market needs and aims to bring about positive change in society towards individuals with special needs.

Helwan University grants the bachelor’s degree in physical education for Students with Special Needs – specialization in Curricula and Teaching Methods for Disabilities, indicating the selected disability (Intellectual – Hearing – Visual – Learning Difficulties). This degree is based on the credit hour system.

The duration of study for obtaining the bachelor’s degree in physical education for Students with Special Needs, specialization in Curricula and Teaching Methods, is eight semesters/four years (each semester lasting 15 weeks). A student may complete the graduation requirements and obtain the degree in a minimum of six semesters/three years, in accordance with the latest amendment to Article (79) of the Executive Regulations of the Universities Organization Law.

  • Preparing specialized physical education teachers in the field of special needs to work with students with disabilities at various educational stages, as well as those enrolled in special education institutions and inclusion schools. The program prepares physical education teachers in the following specializations:
    Intellectual Disability – Hearing Disability – Visual Disability – Learning Difficulties.
    In the future, the program aims to add Autism – Multiple Disabilities – Physical Disabilities to its specializations.
  • Preparing scientifically qualified and specialized cadres in the field of physical education for individuals with special needs to fill the significant gap in the demand for this precise specialization. This is achieved through cooperation between the Department of Curricula and Teaching Methods and other practical departments at the faculty in teaching the required courses for obtaining the Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, specialization in Curricula and Teaching Methods for Students with Special Needs.
  • Awarding a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education from the Department of Curricula and Teaching Methods in the field of special needs, in any of the aforementioned specializations.
  • Opening new career opportunities for graduates of physical education after studying this specialization.

First: Academic Qualification (General Secondary Education Certificate or equivalent)

  1. The applicant must hold the Egyptian General Secondary Education Certificate (both sections) or an equivalent certificate, such as the General Secondary Education Certificate from any Arab country, the American Diploma, or the British Secondary Education Certificate. The program is studied over a duration of eight semesters.

Second: Medical Examination

The applicant must pass a comprehensive medical examination, which includes:

  • Being free from diseases.
  • Soundness of vital body systems (heart, lungs, nervous system, etc.).
  • Soundness of the hearing system.
  • Soundness of the visual system.

Third: Posture Examination

Examination of the spine, legs, and feet.

Fourth: Physical Fitness and Skill Tests

Fifth: Personal Interview

Includes an interview with program applicants, observing and discussing them while watching a short film about disability.

Sixth: Study Readiness Test (Written)

The program is fee-based and falls under the category of programs subject to standard academic quality criteria for higher education. It is supervised by the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at the faculty and follows the credit hour system.

All courses in this program are evaluated based on credit hours. One credit hour represents either one hour of theoretical study or two hours of practical work. Each course requires at least one credit hour per week.

Language of Instruction: Arabic.

The courses are divided into three types:

First: General Faculty Preparation Courses – offered in the first year over two semesters.

Second: Special Education Preparation Courses – offered in the second year over two semesters.

Third: Specialized Preparation Courses according to the field of specialization – offered in the third and fourth years over four semesters.
